There are lots of common mistakes in the SEO effort of websites responsible for their bad search engine results and traffic volume. Here we show how to fix these common SEO mistakes.

There are mistakes that proverbially expressed happen once in a blue moon but in respect of SEO those group of mistakes is a non-existent entity altogether. Reason is simple, almost all SEO mistakes are common to a great majority of websites and often they tend to recur incessantly, thus invoking doubt as for the level of SEO expertise that let those mistakes roll out unnoticed time and again. Often a few simple, easy to fix SEO mistakes are responsible for a steady dip in the search engine ranks. Here we show how to fix your common SEO mistakes.

Mistake No 1: Uppercase URLs

There is multitude of websites that typically suffer from a problem concerning URLs. Especially sites with .NET extension suffer most from this problem. If you do not fix the problem by checking the server side configurations often your users can suffer from getting misdirected or even in not finding your web page. It is still one of the most common SEO mistakes that make a lot of websites suffer.

Mistake No 2: Non-optimized page speed

Recent Google search engine algorithm took this mistake seriously to sensitize websites on it. It is true that a web page that takes more than a minute to show up these days gets avoided by majority of web users and it affects the user experience terribly. Search rank considerations and Google threat apart low page speed is very unlikely for converting web users to buyers or subscribers who spend or at least show intension to spend. Try to enhance the page upload speed in every possible way, by changing the heavy image and video contents to lighter ones, replacing flash player with HTML 5, incorporating responsive design, etc.

Mistake No 3: Not mobile ready

It is a widely acclaimed fact that majority users today access web primarily through the hand held mobile devices and increasingly the trend is going to make the traditional computers and desktops obsolete. Though developing websites addressing the design requirement for mobile devices has already become a criterion for developers, still now there is multitude of websites that look ridiculously dull, over shaped or non-optimized on mobile screen and naturally they are least bothered by the majority of web users. Addressing this mistake with a responsive design to make it look identical and smartly optimized as per screen size of the device should be a priority if you want to see your website hitting search ranks.

Mistake No 4: Dynamic URL without any keyword

One of the common SEO mistakes that make huge number of websites suffer is dynamic URLs that are non-crawlable by the search engine. Remember any search engine prefers static URLs as they are easily accessed by the search engine crawlers but software generated dynamic URLs often are found with a lot of digits in them and without any keyword and this severely hampers the SEO effort of the website. If you still prefer to use dynamic URL, use a tool for optimizing the URL with keyword as done by prominent blogging platforms like Wordpress.

Mistake No 5: Inaccessible pages leading to server errors

If the pages of your site seem inaccessible number of times leading to really frustrating browser experience it can severely affect your SEO campaign. For instance too many 404 errors is synonymous with the message that there is a problem with the site and once search engine develops such an impression it can prove disastrous to SEO results. Site redesign, discontinued products or sections can be the contributing factors to such problems but if you do not address them immediately to rectify the problem the amount of good external links of your website is going astray besides vulnerability of losing search ranks.

Mistake No 6: Non optimized page title and Meta description

Remember title tag is like the address of a person inviting you to his home for dinner. Without a proper title tag the content seems like an orphan and naturally search engine ranks suffer in effect. Meta description is something that introduces your content to the readers while listed on the search page and if a clear, to the point and crisp Meta description is not provided often the page seems lacking real value corresponding to the search. Make it a practice to optimize page titles and Meta description as per content.

Mistake No 7: Irrelevant links

While bad link scheme is just not seen as a mistake but more as a SEO crime these days, at least web people who are seriously trying to follow good examples of White Hat SEO should avoid being susceptible to such SEO mistakes. The links within the content – whether they are internal or external – should be absolutely relevant to the topic and the web user coming on to your page for viewing the content. With the latest algorithm update and repeated focus Google has already made it clear that bad link scheme that instead of providing any usefulness to the users of the content misguides them or depreciates the user experience, will be straightforward indexed or demoted from the search ranks. Even if you cannot readily find good relevant links to replace them, at least remove bad links to save your SEO position.

Mistake No 8: Duplicate Content

While from all corners the focus is on optimizing user experience and providing richer, contextual, relevant and unique content, duplicate content on your web pages can only pave the way for ruination of your search rank ambitions. Keep apart all duplicate content from your pages and replace them wherever possible with original and unique content. Even churned or slightly different rewritten version of similar content from another web page is depreciating enough for your web rank.

Mistake No 9: Stuffing keywords

This is one SEO blunder that won’t spare you a chance to survive on the search ranks. There are websites with only keywords repeated on their page a dozen times and almost make 50% to 80% of their content volume and there are sites where in an otherwise genuine content keyword density is really high and often the keywords are repeated sounding unnatural depreciating the readability of the content. As per latest search engine algorithm regulation both are examples of keyword stuffing, only at varying degree and are punishable with indexing from the search page or demotion in search ranks. Make sure that the keywords are repeated not more than 2-3 times in an article (in small article it should be 1-2 times maximum) and always sound natural to the body of content.

Mistake No 10: More than one homepage version

Often websites with multiple homepage suffers terribly from SEO problems or derailed traffic. For instance if you have two home pages, one optimized and updated and the other with many obsolete non updated aspects, this can make your search rank suffer terribly. If both the home pages are identical in content to some extent yet different also in many aspects, then the issue regarding duplicate content is also possible to hamper search ranks. Optimizing all the homepages for diverse groups of traffic is the best effective way to solve the problem.
