What is Java?
Java is an object oriented programming language. In early nineties the Sun Microsystem developed a language with the concept keep in mind for making entertainment and electronic devices. This language was OAK. OAK was developed as a platform independent language. It was used for making video games, VCR's etc. Java is evolved from the language OAK. After unsuccessful of OAK, in 1995 Sun Microsystem do some modification in OAK and changed the name from OAK to JAVA for taking advantage of growing and flourishing of World Wide Web.

Java technology is a secure computing platform which allows us to work and play in a secure computing environment. It allows us to play online games, chat with people around the world, calculate our mortgage interest, and view images in 3D etc.
